A railway stop near NE 115th Street was called Lake. In 1906, D.H. and R.H. Lee bought and platted the land and named it Lake City. The road toward Bothell and Everett, now Lake City Way NE, was paved with brick in 1918 and with asphalt in 1928. Lake City incorporated as a township in 1949, and Seattle annexed it in 1954. For years the area stayed remote and suburban, and after World War II a wave of young families drove rapid growth. Today the Thornton Creek watershed covers much of the neighborhood, and the Lake City Library reopened in a new building in 2006.
